totally stealing this for my next syllabus…
“When people say the classics are better than some of the more recent Disney movies storyline wise, I find it sad. Lilo and Stitch is a newer film and had a beautiful story!”
Turnitin provides insight into plagiarism in their new white-paper, The Plagiarism Spectrum: Instructor Insights in the 10 Types of Plagiarism.
This white paper distills a study of thousands of plagiarized papers, providing examples of 10 distinct types of plagiarism that comprise the vast majority of unoriginal work in student papers.
The Plagiarism Spectrum is a guide to help educators, students, academics, and writers recognize the various forms of plagiarism. This spectrum moves plagiarism beyond the black-and-white definition of “literary theft” to one that captures the nuances of how plagiarism can take form.
As part of this study, Turnitin surveyed both higher and secondary education instructors to take a measure of how prevalent and problematic these instances of plagiarism are among their students.
Yes I get frustrated
when everyone dumps on the public education system, especially in Florida. Most of these people are adults who grew up in a whole different time period to what is going on currently in the public school system or they don’t really understand how the system works and just go by what the media feeds them or worse they are both of these things. Standardized tests are EVERYWHERE. They are in every state, not just Florida, and they have the same problems that we do but you don’t hear about them because you don’t live in that state. Yeah the FCAT does suck. It is a horrible high-stake test. It was NOT designed to be a high-stake, it was designed to be a diagnostic tool for teachers. Unfortunately, the government decided on who FCAT would be used. I went through the whole cycle of FCAT and passed it with flying colors every time but it did not translate into me being the smartest. I struggled with my classes and yet I always passed the FCAT with a 5 or a few times a 4. To me this means I am just good at taking a test. People need to realize that low test scores are not necessarily due to the teachers not teaching or the students not learning. Sometimes the student is stresses to much about a test that apparently predicts their whole educational future and second guess themselves. Some people just suck at taking tests. Some people don’t care and sleep through the test because they know they will get another chance to take it and that chance to take it again means they can be out of class for a whole day. I saw plenty of that happen in high school. The public education system has flaws but every system has flaws. Let’s stop blaming the teachers for not teaching and they students for being to dumb to learn. How come no one ever looks at the home life of the child, which can totally affect their education. Sometimes people should really stop talking crap about something they do not necessarily understand and stop listening to the media about it because it is only one side of the story.
If you believe we’ve got a picture perfect plan
We’ve got you fooled
‘Cause we only do the best we can
And sometimes we make it
And sometimes we fake it
But we get one step closer each and every day
We figure it out on the way
Via six seasons and a movie
